Loenen aan de Vecht.
Fort Nieuwersluis, BB A-kring Utrecht-a.

The small village of Loenen aan de Vecht has one of the many old fortifications from the former Dutch water frontier. (Nieuwe Hollandsche Waterlinie)

One of the former military objects in the village is Fort Nieuwersluis, that is built around 1850 and got some additional buildings and earth slopes around 1880.
During WWII there where Dutch and German military activities on the fort and one of the remains from that period is a shooting range. At the end of the war the Dutch authorities placed some prisoners in the Fort. Most of them were men who had collaborated with the Germans. A couple of nice paintings on the wall remain from those people.

After the war, around 1955 a part of the main building of the fort was rebuilt as a regional command post for the BB (Civil Defence) A-kring Utrecht-a, and was used till 1987.
After the BB had left the bunker it was used as a command post for the KMC (Korps Mobiele Colonne) which was a Auxiliary Fire Service Corps, till 1992 when the KMC was abolished.

Nowadays most of the objects are used as a winter sleeping place for bats. In the summer there are several days when the fort is open for the public.

One of the bunkers is interesting, because you get a glimp of its ground plate. This plate is to give it more stability in the soft and wet grounds.
